The project is funded by the International Olympic Committee and Chinese Olympic Committee after the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake. The cross-shaped building creates outdoor sports venues for athletics, basketball/volleyball and tennis. It also distributes the school’s dormitory, arena, swimming pool and tennis courts in four directions. The building is adapted to local climate and characterized by semi-open space with natural ventilation and lighting. The exposed structural concrete, incorporated with gray bricks and bamboo, expresses intentions about sustainability.
